The short version: We collect the minimum data needed to run Chore Bear. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't share your family's information with third parties for marketing. You can delete your account and data at any time.

1. Introduction

Chore Bear, LLC ("Chore Bear," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Chore Bear mobile application and the chorebear.com website (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use Chore Bear.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Account info: email address, password (stored as a salted hash), and display name.
  • Family profile info: names, ages or age ranges, and avatars of parents and children you add.
  • Content you create: chores, rewards, task history, comments, and photos attached for task verification.
  • Support communications: messages you send us by email or through in-app support.
  • Payment info: subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or our payment processor. We receive confirmation of a subscription but do not store your full payment card details.

Information collected automatically

  • Device info: device model, operating system version, app version, and language.
  • Usage data: aggregated, non-identifying analytics about which screens are used and how often features are tapped.
  • Crash logs: diagnostic information when the app crashes, used to fix bugs.
  • Push notification tokens: if you enable notifications, a device token so we can send reminders.
  • Log data: IP address and timestamps of requests to our servers, kept for security and debugging.

Information we don't collect

We do not collect precise location, contacts, microphone audio, health data, or browsing history outside the app. We do not use advertising identifiers for tracking.

3. How we use it

We use the information above to:

  • Provide and operate the Service (sync your family's chores, send notifications, show the dashboard).
  • Authenticate you and protect your account.
  • Process subscriptions and prevent fraud.
  • Diagnose crashes and improve reliability.
  • Respond to support requests.
  • Send occasional service announcements (you can opt out of marketing emails; we will still send transactional emails like receipts and security notices).
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your family's personal information to train advertising models or sell it to data brokers.

4. Sharing & third parties

We share information only with service providers who help us run the Service, and only what they need to do their job:

  • Cloud hosting: our backend runs on reputable cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or Google Cloud) in the United States.
  • Payment processing: Apple (for App Store in-app purchases) and/or Stripe.
  • Crash and analytics: privacy-respecting analytics and crash reporting tools. Data is aggregated and stripped of direct identifiers where possible.
  • Email delivery: transactional email providers to send receipts, password resets, and notifications.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for third-party advertising.

We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.

If Chore Bear is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5. Children's privacy

Chore Bear is designed to be used by families, including children. We take extra care with children's information. For full details, see our Children's Privacy Notice.

In short: a parent creates and controls every child profile. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without parental consent. We do not show ads to anyone, and we do not use children's information for any marketing or profiling purpose.

6. Security

We protect your information using industry-standard safeguards, including TLS encryption in transit, encryption of sensitive fields at rest, salted password hashes, access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep yours safe.

7. Retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it (e.g., for tax records, fraud prevention, or legal obligations). Backups are purged on a rolling basis and never retained beyond 90 days.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information (see account deletion).
  • Export your information in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you're a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law. You may request disclosure, deletion, or correction using the contact above.

European / UK residents (GDPR)

The legal bases we rely on include performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests (running and improving the Service), your consent (where required), and compliance with legal obligations.

9. International transfers

Our servers are located in the United States. If you use Chore Bear from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect international transfers.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
